Seven Terriers players selected to T12
It’s been an outstanding year for the Ontario Terriers.
On May 1, RHP Cal Quantrill (Port Hope, Ont.) became the first player from their program to suit up in the big leagues and he has since become a staple of the San Diego Padres’ starting rotation.
Earlier this month, Terriers infielder Austin Gomm (Mississauga, Ont.) starred for the Junior National Team at the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup in Australia, batting .345 with with two doubles, a triple and 10 RBI while starting all eight tournament games at shortstop. For his efforts, he was named to the tournament’s All-World Team.
And now Gomm and six other Terriers have been selected to participate in Tournament 12, which is set to begin on Tuesday at the Rogers Centre.
Tournament 12 is a showcase event for the top 150 amateur players born in Canada with college eligibility. The event provides top amateur prospects with the opportunity to play in front of a large number pro and college scouts.
Gomm, RHP Matt Brown, LHP Campbell Ellis, INF Elijha Hammill, LHP Connor O'Halloran, INF Dante Wright and C Tyson Gomm will represent the Terriers at the tournament.
Hammill and O’Halloran recently played with Gomm on the Canadian Junior National Team at the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup in Australia.
Left-handers O’Halloran and Ellis have committed to the University of Michigan and Virginia Commonwealth University respectively.
The format for this year’s Tournament 12 has been revamped so that the participants will no longer play for their regions, but rather will be divided evenly among six teams.
O’Halloran and Ellis will suit up for Team Orange at the event, while Tyson Gomm and Hammill will toil for Team Navy. Austin Gomm, Wright and Brown will play for Team Green, Team Maroon and Team Black respectively.
Tuesday will be a workout/scout day at Tournament 12 and then the teams will play a series of games against each from Wednesday through Friday.
A home run derby will be held on Saturday, along with an all-star game that will feature the tournament’s top prospects and performers.
