St. Thomas Tomcats earn gold at U22 eliminations

The St. Thomas Tomcats edged the Guelph Silvercreeks 3-2 to win gold in the Baseball Ontario U22 eliminations at the Field of Dreams in Dorchester, Ont.
Both teams are headed to the National Championship in Stonewall, Man.
St. Thomas opened with a 6-2 win over the Oshawa Legionnaires and moved to 2-0 with a 2-1 victory against the Tecumseh Thunder.
Then came a 7-2 victory against the Mississauga North Tigers and a 7-6 win over Newmarket to move to 4-0.
The Tomcats lost 5-1 to the Guelph Silvercreeks and rebounded in the semi-final with a 6-0 win over Newmarket to move into th e final.
Guelph lost its opener 2-1 to Tecumseh and then facing elimination reeled off wins against Oshawa 2-1, Scarborough 6-2, Kitchener 6-0 and Greater Windsor 5-4 before beating St. Thomas.
A total of 16 teams from across the province competed, including Scarborough, Brantford, Vaughan, Northumberland, East York, Etobicoke and a second Mississauga North team.
