Beeton, Ontario native Jakob Cellupica won’t have to travel far to play at the next level.
The Terrier infielder recently committed to the University of Toronto and will be trading in the blue and gold to become Varsity Blue.
Described by 18U manager Dean Dicenzo as a great teammate, a gap-to-gap hitter and great defender, Cellupica chose U of T for both academic and athletic reasons.
“I’m looking forward to getting the greatest Canadian education possible, while playing baseball at the next level,” he said. “U of T is one of the most prestigious schools in all of Canada. I have also heard exceptional things about the baseball program. There’s nothing better than playing the game you love and getting the best education in the country.”
Cellupica will be studying Rotman Commerce and hopes to pursue a career in the field of business.
Founded in 1827, the University of Toronto is home to over 93,000 students both in Canada and abroad. Since 2001 the Varsity Blues have won five OUA baseball championships, with the most recent coming in 2017.
