Ontario Terriers catcher Jason Green (Georgetown, Ont.) will travel just over the border to play his college baseball after committing to Niagara University to become a member of the Purple Eagles.

Green made his commitment to the school in October.

The Niagara coaching staff, led by head coach Rob McCoy, made the school feel like home, Green says. Combine that with a beautiful campus and great facilities and it was an easy decision.

"I thought it was a great fit," Green said. "The coaches and players made it feel like home and a place I want to play in the future. My family and I also loved the campus and facilities."

Known for his offensive upside, the young backstop wants to be an immediate impact player for the Purple Eagles when he arrives on campus.

"My goals once I arrive on campus are to compete for a spot on the field and contribute to their success immediately while giving us a chance to win every day," he said. "My biggest strengths are my work ethic and ability to contribute offensively at any time."

Until then, he'll continue to work on his craft under the guidance of the Terriers coaching staff. Being part of the organization, along with the support of his family, has no doubt played a significant role in where he is today.

"The Terriers have taught me how to be a better person and how to treat people on and off the field on a daily basis," he said. "The coaches make the game fun while also preparing you for the next level and what is to be expected. My dad is my biggest influence as he's been there through my whole baseball career since day one and helped me get to where I am today."

Niagara University plays in the Division I Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and currently have 14 Canadians on their roster, including former Terriers catcher Matt Ward.
