Ontario Terriers and Junior National Team standout infielder Elijha Hammill (Oakville, Ont.) has announced his commitment to the University of Utah.
The switch-hitting 16-year-old shared the news on Twitter on Wednesday.
The speedy teenager has honed his skills with the Ontario Terriers and the Junior National Team. He suited up for the national squad at last year’s World Cup, as well as for their spring training in St. Petersburg, Fla. this spring.
The 5-foot-11 Hammill, who has been selected to participate in Tournament 12 the past two seasons, is ranked as the No. 5 prospect on the Canadian Baseball Network’s 2021 Draft List.
The talented youngster, who attends Holy Trinity High School, excelled on the diamond from an early age. When he was 11, he advanced to the international MLB Pitch, Hit & Run Contest finals held at the Major League Baseball All-Star Game at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati.
The University of Utah has a strong baseball program that dates back more than 50 years. Over the years, 69 players have been drafted from the Utes and 10 have played in the big leagues.
