Terriers heading south to the Sunshine State

The Ontario Terriers will be hitting the field in just over two weeks.

On Wednesday, March 9, 59 players and 12 coaches will make the trek from Ontario to Winter Haven, Fla., for their annual spring training. It will be the first time the Terriers have made their way to the Sunshine State since the 2020 trip was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The players will be divided up into two senior teams and one junior team. From there, each will take part in practices and games against high school and college competition. The two senior teams will also take part in the Russ Matt Invitational. All of the workouts and most of the games will take place at Chain of Lakes Complex, the former Spring Training home of the Boston Red Sox.

To add to the excitement, there will be numerous college teams working out and playing games at the facility. This will provide players the unique opportunity to see first hand how colleges handle themselves on and off the field. Terriers owner Nicole Tevlin is thrilled with how the trip has come together.

“I think this Florida trip is going to be better than anything we've experienced before as far as location and competition,” Tevlin said. “With all the college games going on around us, it will be a fantastic experience for everyone to see these other games. I don't think many have ever had that opportunity before.”

The players and coaches will return on Thursday, March 17 to begin preparations for the 2022 Canadian Premier Baseball League season.
