Baseball Canada has announced its roster that will travel to Florida for their seven-game Friendship Series against Team USA from September 3 to 9.
Among the 30 players heading south are three Ontario Terriers. Outfielder Cameron Chee-Aloy, catcher Colin Cymbalista and left handed pitcher Jordan Woods will wear the red and white in the Sunshine State.
All three played well during the 14-day, 14-game Junior National Team training camp in Ajax, Ont., that took place from August 18 to September 1. Chee-Aloy hit .277 with a home run, three walks, five RBIs and 12 stolen bases, while Cymbalista had a .238 average with a home run, three RBIs, five walks and a stolen base.
On the mound, Woods tossed 10 2/3 innings and fanned 11.
The Friendship Series will be the first international competition for the Canadian Junior National Team since March 2020.
“We’re extremely fortunate to be able to provide our players with an international baseball experience given the difficulties of running our program over the last 18 months,” said Junior National Team Head Coach and Director of Men’s National Teams Greg Hamilton. “Our players will be challenged against a formidable opponent in the United States, and we look forward to the opportunity of competing and representing Canada down in Florida.”
The first three games of the series will be played at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota before moving to Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg for Game 4. The series will then head to Bradenton for Game 5 at LECOM Field and Game 6 at Pirate City. Game 7, the finale of the series, will be back at LECOM Field.
