OTTAWA - On November 10, 2018, at the Sheraton Ottawa Hotel, Baseball Canada will welcome athletes from past, present and future along with distinguished guests and supporters of the Women’s National Team program to the first-ever Women’s National Teams Awards Banquet and Fundraiser.
In August, the Women’s National Team celebrated a bronze medal at the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup with a thrilling, extra-innings win over the United States. Players from that team will be recognized during an awards portion of the evening that will also include a video presentation and panel/storytelling discussion featuring original Women’s National Team members Ashley Stephenson and Kate Psota.
A highlight of the evening will include on-stage appearances from Maybelle Blair and Shirley Burkovich, two members of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League depicted famously in the movie “A League of Their Own”.
A cocktail hour and silent auction will complement the evening that will be hosted by award-winning baseball writer Alexis Brudnicki and Baseball Québec Vice-President Julie Gosselin.
“We’re extremely excited about this banquet not only to bring in funds for the program but to raise awareness for women’s baseball in Canada and to celebrate national team success,” stated Women’s National Team General Manager André Lachance. “Our program has built an impressive history since we began in 2004 and it is time we start to recognize those individuals who have contributed to the success.”
Baseball Canada’s Women’s National Team is currently ranked No. 2 in the world only behind six-time world champions, Japan. Funds generated from the evening will go towards developing the program to ensure future success on the world stage!
Tickets to the event are $150 per person and tables of eight are also available for purchase. Baseball Canada has registered charitable status.
