Titans sign Caballero, begin to build 2024 roster

Ottawa, Ont. - The Ottawa Titans have signed infielder Erasmo Caballero for the upcoming 2024 Frontier League season.

Caballero, 22, will debut in professional baseball north of the border for the first time in 2024 after spending the last two seasons with the Chiriqui Federals of the Panamanian Professional Baseball League.

The Chiriqui, Panama product has defensive experience at catcher and first base. The 5-foot-11 right-handed hitter received the Most Valuable Player award at the National Senior Baseball Cup, the Panamanian Pandeportes Cup, where he hit .458 with four home runs and 36 RBIs. In the process, Caballero took home the triple crown for being the leader in all three offensive departments.

Internationally, Caballero has represented his nation at the U23 World Cup, the Caribbean Series, the Pan Am Games, and the 2023 World Baseball Classic. This past March, Caballero went 4-for-11 (.364 batting average) with three RBIs and a team-high four walks in four games at the WBC.

In other news, the Titans have acquired RHP Justin Showalter from the Washington Wild Things in exchange for RHP Nick MacDonald.

Also, the club has acquired LHP Matt Valin from the Gateway Grizzlies to complete a previous transaction.

The Titans have also acquired UTIL Jake Guenther from the Missoula PaddleHeads of the Pioneer League in exchange for LHP Daulton Montagna.

Finally, the team has released C Mitsuki Fukuda, OF Jacob Talamante, OF Kanta Kobayashi, RHP Connor Kelly, and LHP Kenny Williams.

The Ottawa Titans open the 2024 season on Friday, May 10 against New England. The Titans’ home opener is scheduled for Tuesday, May 21 versus the Tri-City ValleyCats at Ottawa Stadium.
