The Ottawa Titans have signed infield slugger Malik Williams.
The team officially announced the signing on Monday.
Williams (Toronto, Ont.) joins the Titans after an outstanding season with the Frontier League’s Trois-Rivieres Aigles in 2023 that saw him hit .302 with seven home runs and 31 RBIs in 45 games.
The 6-foot-4, 235-pound Williams, who turned 24 in September, returns to the Titans after getting his first taste of professional baseball with them back in 2022 when he suited up for five games with them.
After honing his skills with the Ontario Blue Jays, Williams embarked on a successful collegiate career, starting at Odessa College before transferring to the Johnson County Cavaliers in Overland Park, Kan.
In 2018, he hit .397 with 17 home runs and 78 RBIs in 60 games with the Cavaliers. For his efforts, he earned second-team All-Canadian and NJCAA third-team All-American honours. He was also named first-team All-Region VI and first-team All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.
He followed that up with another outstanding season with the Cavaliers, batting .346 with 71 hits – including 10 home runs – in 56 games and was again named to CBN’s All-Canadian Second Team and selected to the All-Region VI first-team and All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference first-team.
Williams then transferred to Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn., where he suited up for the Bisons who compete in the NCAA’s Atlantic Sun Conference.
In three seasons with the Bisons, Williams never hit less than .297. He enjoyed his finest campaign in 2022 when he batted .362 with 14 home runs and 66 RBIs in 58 games.
So far, in his three games with the Titans this season, Williams is 3-for-10 with a double and two walks.
