Canadian Abraham Toro is one of 10 players that agreed to a 2023 contract with the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday.
The Brewers made the announcement on Twitter.
Toro was acquired by the Milwaukee Brewers, along with Jesse Winker, from the Seattle Mariners on December 2 in exchange for Kolten Wong and cash.
In 2022, Toro reached double-digits in home runs for the second time in his career, belting 10 in 109 games for the Mariners. The versatile Canuck also added 36 runs, 60 hits, 13 doubles and 22 walks.
The switch-hitting Canadian, who was on the Mariners’ postseason roster, was also one of the club’s top pinch-hitters, going 4-for-12 (.333 batting average) during the regular season.
Originally selected in the fifth round of the 2016 MLB draft by the Houston Astros, the ABC Academy alum made his big league debut on August 22, 2019. In 25 games for the American League pennant winning Astros that season, he batted .218 with two home runs. One of his homers was a two-run shot at Rogers Centre that accounted for the only two runs in Justin Verlander’s no-hitter against the Blue Jays on September 1.
He’d play parts of two more seasons with the Astros before being dealt to the Mariners on July 27, 2021, along with Joe Smith, in exchange for pitchers Kendall Graveman and Rafael Montero.
The 2023 season will be his fifth in the majors.
