The old Scottish folk song goes something like this:

My Bonnie lies over the ocean,

My Bonnie lies over the sea,

My Bonnie lies over the ocean,

Oh, bring back my Bonnie to me.

Well, to the Trkulja family, their Bonnie will soon lie across the border in Western New York.

INF Steve Trkulja, a Terrier, is headed to the St. Bonaventure University Bonnies at St. Bonaventure, NY.

Trkulja (Toronto, Ont.) made the top prospect teams at the 2022 Perfect Game Fall Showcase at the Field of Dreams in Dorcester, Ont.

He also was named to the 2024 Rawlings/Perfect Game Preseason Underclass All American honourable mention for the Canada/Puerto Rico region.

St. Bonaventure originally was nicknamed the Greyhounds and then the Brown Indians. The school officially changed the nickname to the shortened version of the university’s name in 1992 after consulting with the Seneca Nation, located near the university. The Bonnies nickname comes from the Franciscan Friars who were called ‘Bonnies’ when they arrived in Olean, NY in 1858.
