Trois-Rivières, Que. - The Ottawa Titans (15-6) hung on for a slim 6-5 win over the Trois-Rivières Aigles on Wednesday night.
Etobicoke’s Connor Panas got the scoring started with a one-out solo blast in the bottom of the first off of Titans starter Zac Westcott.
The Titans replied in the top of the second with Brandon Dadson (Bowmanville, Ont.) taking Aigles starter Sam Poliquin (Lachine, Que.) to the wall in right-centre, scoring Jake Sanford (Cole Harbour, N.S.) from first to tie the game.
In the fourth, the Titans pushed across three runs on three hits, with Dadson and Jacob Talamante driving in runs.
Panas blasted his second homer of the game to lead off the fourth off Westcott to cut the deficit to two. Through four, the two homers from Panas were the only hits that Westcott had allowed.
AJ Wright restored the three-run lead with a solo homer in the fifth. Wright has now taken the team lead with his sixth homer of the season. The eventual winning run came across to score on Wright’s two-out single in the seventh.
In the ninth, Gavin Sonnier got the first two easily, before the Aigles loaded the bases. Gatineau’s Marcel Lacasse came off the bench to pinch-hit, delivering a two-run single up the middle for his first professional hit.
Kevin Escorcia came into the jam and plunked LP Pelletier (Montreal, Que.), then walked Panas to shrink the Titans' lead to one. Escorcia faced Raphael Gladu (Trois-Rivieres, Que.) and got the veteran to ground out to end the game.
In the game, Tyrus Greene extended his hit streak to seven straight, going 4-for-5 in the win. The club has also won their seventh straight game and series on the young season.
The Ottawa Titans finish their three-game series against the Trois-Rivières Aigles on Thursday evening with Chris Burica on the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from Stade Quillorama. The Titans return home on Friday at 6:30 p.m. to take on the Empire State Greys.
