SAN JOSE DEL CABO, Mexico - Michael Yusypchuk (Edmonton, Alta.) and Matthew Donnision (Niagara Falls, Ont.) tossed a combined no-hitter as the Junior National Team picked up their first win at the WBSC Americas U18 Baseball World Cup Qualifier, defeating Peru, 11-1 on Monday.

Box Score

Yusypchuk started and worked six hitless innings, while walking four and striking out seven. The only run that Peru managed off him came in the first inning as a result of a couple defensive miscues.

Matthew Donnison (Niagara Falls, Ont.) replaced Yusypchuk in the bottom of the seventh and worked a perfect one-two-three inning to secure the win.

Sam Shaw (Victoria, BC) led the Juniors’ offence, going 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a single and a home run while driving in six runs. Shaw also was hit by a pitch and stole a base. Ty Hamilton (Orleans, Ont.) collected a hit in three at bats and drove in a pair of runs, while Cardel Dick (Abbotsford, BC) also had a good day at the dish, finishing 1-for-2 with a walk and a run.

The Juniors will close out Opening Round play on Tuesday when they take on the United States at 6 p.m. E.T.
