COACHES COMMENTS:

The T-Birds Rolled into Lewiston, Id. to face the 3-time defending National Champion  and #1 ranked LC State Warriors. Game 1 was a tight contest until the Warriors broke it open in the 8th with seven runs. Niall Windeler gave up three runs in the first but showed good presence on the mound, keeping the Birds in the game with six straight scoreless innings. The bats were silenced on Friday night as LC State took Game 1. Saturday’s games were split as the T-Birds took game one behind a strong performance by Adam McKillican, and timely hitting from Anthony Cusati. The backend of the double header was a back and forth affair as the Warriors came out victorious, thanks in part to five home runs.

The most exciting game was saved for Sunday, with a series split on the line. Brad Smith gave the T-birds a good performance on the mound and the offence helped him out in the fourth, putting four runs on the board. The Warriors promptly answered with two in the sixth, three in the seventh, and one in the eighth. Down 7-4 in the top of the ninth, the T-birds rallied closing the gap to one run and now had the bases loaded with one out. The game came to an end when a comebacker to the pitcher was thrown home for one out, then to first, hitting the Thunderbird runner in the back and redirected into right field. The tying run was scored on the play but the rule on the field was baserunner interference, giving the Warriors the third out and the win.

A tough way to end the weekend but the compete level has never been in question all year.

Sr Anthony Olson has returned to action from an eye injury.
