Victoria, BC - Fresh off their third-place finish last weekend in their first ever Canadian College Baseball Conference (CCBC) Fall Championship Tournament, a fairly noteworthy accomplishment for a first year team, the Victoria Golden Tide Baseball Club ups the ante this Sunday, October 17, when they entertain the UBC Thunderbirds, the top college baseball program in Canada, for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
The Thunderbirds play in the Cascade Collegiate Conference of the U.S. based National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) - the only Canadian college squad to compete south of the border - where they have historically been ranked in the top 25 in the nation among 200+ schools (as high as 3rd in 2010).
They have had 22 athletes drafted to the MLB, and the T-Birds have been the only Canadian team to compete for a U.S. National Championship. They were NAIA Region One Champions in 2003, ‘05, ‘06, ‘09, ‘10, ‘11, ‘14, and ‘15.
The Golden Tide are also in action Saturday, October 16 for a 1p.m. doubleheader against the Mid-Island Pirates.
