Mia Valcke (St. Marys, Ont.) collected three hits in four at bats, as Team Red defeated Team Black 10-4 in the final game of the Women’s National Team Selection at Ottawa Stadium on Sunday.

Valcke tripled in the second inning, singled in the fourth inning, and then singled again in the sixth inning.

Team Black jumped out to the lead in the top of the second after an error scored two runs, and Madison Willan (Edmonton, Alta.) grounded out, scoring one run.

Team Black would add one more run in the third after Heather Healey (Paradise, Nfld.) smashed an RBI single.

Team Red flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five runs on four hits to take a 7-4 lead.

Jaida Lee (St. John’s, Nfld.) led things off on the hill for Team Red. The starting pitcher allowed three hits and three runs (zero earned) over two innings, striking out four and walking two. Raine Padgham (Abbotsford, B.C.) began the game on the opposing side for Team Black. The right-handed pitcher gave up four hits and two runs over two innings, striking out two and walking two.

Sarah Pengelly (Burnaby, B.C.), Liz Gilder (Port Moody, B.C.), and Delika Dumulong (L’Épiphanie, Que.) each came on in relief for Team Red and held Team Black scoreless in three straight innings.

Team Red offence collected 15 hits. Leadoff hitter Sena Catterall (Pierrefonds, Que.) led the squad with four hits in five at bats. Cassie Matlock (Edmonton, Alta.) and Justine Marin (L’Assomption, Que.) both finished the camp with multi-hit games.
