Official Swift Current 57’s News Release

The Swift Current 57’s are excited to welcome Jason Veyna as the organization’s new head coach and general manager.

Veyna is no stranger to the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL). The native of Lamar, Colorado and current head coach of the Trinidad State Trojans was the 2019 WCBL Eastern nominee for Coach of the Year as the skipper of the Regina Red Sox.

Veyna won a league championship as a player with the Red Sox in 2011 and guided the Queen City to Eastern Conference Championships and WCBL league final appearances in 2018 and 2019. Veyna also coached the East Conference in the WCBL All-Star game in 2022.

“I look forward to the new opportunity with the 57’s winning history and I’m grateful to be working with an experienced staff,” commented Veyna from his home in Colorado.

“We have great local talent at our nucleus and I’ve already begun recruiting a few high-talent signees who are in the process of signing player contracts.”

Brad Woods, the vice-president of baseball operations with the 57’s, expressed optimism about adding Veyna to Swift Current’s staff.

“We are very excited to have Jason join us as the head coach and general manager of the Swift Current 57’s baseball club,” stated Woods.

“He comes to us very highly recommended within the WCBL community, having spent time in the league as both a player and coach. He understands the winning tradition of 57’s baseball, the community, and has a good feel for the commitment required to run a successful summer program.”

Veyna, who has already begun the recruiting process, added: “We will aim to bring the title back to the East and also build lasting relationships with our community to be proud of. It’s an honour to be named the next GM/head coach and I will make sure our guys strive to leave a positive impact. We’ll compete at the championship calibre Swift has come to expect.”

The remainder of the Swift Current 57’s baseball operations staff will be announced at a later date.
