Toronto Star columnist Richard Griffin broke the news on Saturday that the Toronto Blue Jays will promote Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to the triple-A Buffalo Bisons next week following the Hall of Fame Induction Weekend in Cooperstown, NY.
The Bisons' Twitter feed later announced that Guerrero is scheduled to be promoted to the club on Tuesday
Guerrero has dominated the Eastern League all season and thumped his 14th home run of the season Friday night in a win for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Guerrero Jr. has hit an astonishing .402/.449/.671 in his Age-19 season, spending it in double-A while hitting 14 home runs, 19 doubles and striking out only 27 times (for a 10.4% rate, which is pretty unreal)
The Vlad-to-Buffalo rumours were put on ice for a while as he missed over a month with a knee injury but now that he's been back in New Hampshire for seven games, hitting in every one of them and having two-hit games in three with three home runs, it appears that it's time for a move onward and upward.
His famous father, Vladimir Guerrero, is being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame this weekend in Cooperstown and, as Richard Griffin has tweeted, Guerrero Jr. will accompany his father to the Hall of Fame ceremony and then keep moving west in New York State to join the Buffalo Bisons.
The Bisons open a series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Monday at 7:05pm at Coca Cola Field in Buffalo.
