OTTAWA- With the WBSC U-18 baseball World Cup now less than four months away, the Thunder Bay International Baseball Association (TBIBA) is on the hunt for volunteers to staff the event that will take place from September 1-10, 2017.
“Volunteers are the backbone of events such as this one,” said Warren Philp, Executive Director of TBIBA. “No baseball expertise is needed for many of the positions that are available. If you have an interest, register today.”
Yesterday, at a news conference at the Valhalla Inn in Thunder Bay, tournament officials revealed an online database housed at thunderbay2017.com where volunteers can register for positions ranging from team hosts and ticket takers to social media and music coordination.
With over 40 volunteer roles to be fulfilled, there is literally something for everyone to become involved with the tournament.
Other announcements coming out of the news conference included Air Canada coming on board as an event partner joining a list that includes Tbaytel, Goldcorp and CN Rail.
An update was also given on host venues Port Arthur Stadium and Baseball Central who are both currently undergoing construction and improvements.
“We have a number of projects that are ongoing,” says Reg Galbraith, Director of Facilities for TBIBA. “Fortunately we began the improvements last fall and we therefore have a head start. We will be ready for the audit the WBSC officials will conduct in June.”
