WBSC postpones Americas Olympic Qualifier due to coronavirus

OTTAWA – The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) announced earlier today that the Baseball Americas Olympic Qualifier scheduled for March 22-26 in Surprise and Tempe, Arizona has been postponed due to player, personnel and spectator health and safety measures to counter the spread of the coronavirus.
In their announcement, the WBSC stated: “ After consulting with medical and governmental authorities, a joint decision by the WBSC and the Local Organizing Committee was taken to postpone the event.”
The announcement also stated that: “New dates for the America's Qualifier in Arizona will be announced in due course.”
“Baseball Canada is fully supportive of the decision to postpone the WBSC Baseball Americas Olympic Qualifier in Arizona,” stated Baseball Canada President Jason Dickson. “Baseball Canada is monitoring the evolving impact of the coronavirus and are in dialogue with our funding agency (Sport Canada) who are connected with Canadian and international health authorities.”
