OTTAWA – The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) announced on Monday that they are postponing the Final Olympic Baseball Qualifier to June 17-21 due to player, personnel and spectator health and safety measures against the spread of the coronavirus.
The original event was slated to take place in Taichung, Taiwan from April 1-5, however Taichung will remain hosts for the rescheduled event in June.
Canada’s men’s national baseball team will be competing in the WBSC Baseball Americas Olympic Qualifier from March 22-26 in Surprise and Tempe, Arizona with the winner of the eight-team event gaining entry into the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Baseball Competition while the second and third place finishers will qualify for the Final Olympic Baseball Qualifier.
Four nations have already qualified for baseball at the 2020 Olympics: host Japan, Israel, Korea and Mexico.
