OTTAWA – The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) has announced updated world rankings lists for women’s and men’s baseball with Canada maintaining a No. 3 ranking on the women’s side while the men’s rankings saw Canada fall to No. 12.

With COVID-19 severely impacting the international baseball calendar over the last 22 months, there were no changes to the women’s baseball world rankings. The Women’s National Team program has not competed in a sanctioned event since the Americas World Cup qualifier in 2019.

Plans for the 2022 international baseball calendar include a COPABE Continental qualifier slated for Venezuela in August.

With all international baseball events cancelled or postponed in 2020, Canada competed in just one sanctioned men’s baseball event in 2021 earning a fourth place finish at the Baseball Americas Olympic Qualifier while the U-18 Baseball World Cup was postponed until 2022.

The world rankings consider “National Team performance — from U-12 to top level — in WBSC-sanctioned international competitions over a four-year period. The end-of-the-year rankings reflect the expiration of all points given in 2017.”

Following the Olympic qualifier, Canada held the No. 8 position but have now fallen to No. 12.
