Okotoks Dawgs vs Lethbridge Bulls | 3 – 2
The Okotoks Dawgs trailed in the ninth inning, but scored two runs to take down the Lethbridge Bulls 3-2 at Spitz Stadium. The victory brings the Dawgs record up to 38-12 for the season, as the Bulls fall to 28-24.
Nolan Ruff got the start for the Dawgs, tossing the first six innings of the ballgame, where he struck out five and only allowed one earned run. Graham Brunner, Don Ferrario and Brandon Desjardins each pitched one inning in relief in the victory.
Dawgs outfielder, Tristan Peters hit his 10th homer of the season, finishing the night 1-4 as he continues to dominate WCBL pitching. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native leads the league with a .400 batting average and will be a candidate to win the MVP award come seasons end.
Medicine Hat Mavericks vs Fort McMurray Giants | 10 – 0
In a game where the Fort McMurray Giants needed a victory to help their playoff chances, they fell to the Medicine Hat Mavericks 10-0, unable to rise to the occasion. The loss drops the Giants record to 24-27 for the season and now only lead the Edmonton Prospects by half a game for the final playoff spot.
Jaymon Cervantes was dominant on the mound tonight as he got the start for the Mavericks, tossing eight innings, striking out one and only allowing one hit. Taylor Wright came in relief in the ninth inning, shutting down the Giants as he did not allow a hit during his relief outing.
Mavericks catcher, Colton Wright had a phenomenal night at the plate, reaching base four times as he went 3-4 with a walk, a double, two RBIs and a run scored.
Yorkton Cardinals vs Edmonton Prospects | 6 – 12
The Edmonton Prospects kept their playoff hopes alive, defeating the Yorkton Cardinals 12-6. The victory brings the Prospects only half a game back of the Fort McMurray Giants for the final playoff spot in the West Division.
Andrew Lowe got the start for the Prospects, allowing three earned runs on four hits as he got through only 3 2/3 innings. Haden Dow came in relief in the fourth inning, tossing three innings before handing things off to Zac Harrington who tossed the next 1 1/3. Brendan Owens finished the night off and completed the victory for Edmonton, tossing the ninth inning where he didn’t allow a hit.
Travis Hunt crushed a homer for the Prospects, finishing the ballgame 3-5 with a double and four RBIs.
Regina Red Sox vs Moose Jaw Miller Express | 9 – 3
The Regina Red Sox picked up their eighth win in 10 games played as they downed the Moose Jaw Miller Express 9-3.
Matt Goertzen was the starter for the Red Sox, tossing seven innings of work, striking out six, before Max Ludka and Adam De La Cruz each pitched an inning to finish things off, each striking out two batters apiece.
Regina infielder, Ivan Nunez had a terrific night at the plate as he crushed his sixth homer of the season, finishing the ballgame 2-4 with three RBIs and a run scored.
Melville Millionaires vs Weyburn Beavers | 3 – 10
The Weyburn Beavers downed the Melville Millionaires 10-3, bringing their record up to 28-21, as the Millionaires fall to 16-35 for the season.
Manny Guzman had nine strikeouts for the Beavers as he tossed eight dominant innings, allowing only five hits and one earned run. Jack Barrie, the WCBL home run leader, came in relief to pitch the ninth inning, completing the victory for his club. Barrie finished the ballgame 3-4 with a walk, a triple, a double and two RBI’s.
Swift Current 57’s vs Brooks Bombers | 11 – 5
The Swift Current 57’s extended their win-streak to six as they defeated the Brooks Bombers 11-5. The victory brings the 57’s record up to 35-17 for the season, good enough for second in the East Division, trailing the first place Regina Red Sox by only two games.
Brandon O’Neill was the starter for the 57’s, tossing seven innings, striking out eight, before Aaron Pugh came in relief to pitch the final two innings where only allowed one hit and struck out one.
Elvin Alamo, Luis Navarro and Vinny Margiotta all crushed homers in the victory.
