Western Canadian Baseball League
The Western Canadian Baseball League Playoffs are just around the corner, but there is a lot to be determined before then. Catch up with the game recaps from August 4th, with some playoff notes added in.
West Division
Brooks Bombers vs Edmonton Prospects (GAME ONE) | 5 – 15
Brooks Bombers vs Edmonton Prospects (GAME TWO) | 4 – 8
The Edmonton Prospects swept the double-header against the Brooks Bombers, taking game one 15-5 and game two 8-4. The victories give the Prospects a two-game lead in the West Division over the Fort McMurray Giants for the final playoff spot, but currently have two more games played.
The Prospects finish their season off against the Bombers on Monday as the Giants conclude things versus the lowly Yorkton Cardinals who currently have a record of 6-47. If the Giants suffer a loss to the Cardinals, their season will be over as the Prospects just need a victory and a Giants loss to clinch a playoff spot. This scenario could also go the other way, as the Giants only need an Edmonton loss and a sweep of the Cardinals to secure their playoff birth. Keep an eye on all the action in the final days of the season.
Lethbridge Bulls vs Medicine Hat Mavericks | 2 – 1
The Lethbridge Bulls and Medicine Hat Mavericks will matchup in the first round of the WCBL Playoffs, but home field advantage is yet to be decided. Currently, the Bulls lead the Mavericks by half a game in the West Division, but have one more game played.
The two teams battle it out Monday, which will most likely determine home field advantage of the three-game first round series.
East Division
Weyburn Beavers vs Moose Jaw Miller Express (GAME ONE) | 6 – 4
Weyburn Beavers vs Moose Jaw Miller Express (GAME TWO) | 3 – 2
Regina Red Sox vs Melville Millionaires | 15 – 2
