Western Canadian Baseball League - Halfway point update
July 15, 2019
From the Western Canadian Baseball League website
The Western Canadian Baseball League heads into its final month of the season as we catch up with what has been going on around the league thus far.
Final Push Into the Playoffs
There are still some playoff positions to be determined as we head down the stretch run, with the WCBL’s West Division looking wide open. The Lethbridge Bulls, Fort McMurray Giants, Medicine Hat Mavericks and Edmonton Prospects all sit within one game of each other, with only three of the four teams given the chance to make the playoffs. The Okotoks Dawgs seem to be running with the West Division as they lead by eight games.
The WCBL’s East Division is a different story as the playoff teams look set with the Yorkton Cardinals and Melville Millionaires out of the playoff picture with it looking a little too late for either team to make one last push. Sitting atop the division is the Regina Red Sox who hold a record of 24-10, with the Weyburn Beavers only behind them by half a game. The Swift Current 57’s and Moose Jaw Miller Express fill out the other two playoff teams in the division as they sit third and fourth respectively.

Highlight of the Year (So Far)
No-Hitter from Weyburn Beavers RHP Christian Vick
Christian Vick of the Weyburn Beavers took to the mound in a matchup with the Edmonton Prospects where he found himself tossing a no-hitter, striking out 14 batters in a 12-0 win on June 28th, facing only 29 batters.
The Camden, Tennessee native tossed the first no-hitter of the season in the WCBL and only one thus far. Vick’s no-hitter is easily the highlight of the WCBL season as we find ourselves in the final month of regular season play, with tons of baseball left to be seen.
