Windsor Selects, Barrie and Caledon take Kevin Siddall championships

The Windsor Selects, Barrie Baycats and Caledon won their respective age groups of the three divisions of the annual Kevin Siddall invitational tournament in Windsor, Ont.

Windsor beat Caledon 22-8 in the 13U final at John Ivan Field.

Thomas Armstrong pitched three innings in relief for the win, allowing three hits and one run, in his 31-pitch effort.

Caledon edged Oakville 7-6 in one semifinal, while Windsor beat Riverside 8-0, as Everhett Townsend worked 6 1/3 innings -- with 18 strikeouts. Nico Tedesco closed it out by getting the final two outs for the combined no hitter.

In pool play, the Selects beat North Toronto 16-0 and Orangeville 11-1, but dropped an 8-7 loss to West Toronto.

Tedesco led the way with 12 hits, while Connor Trudell and Tedesco had 10 RBIs each. Tedesco and Townsend had three homers apiece and Trudell hit one.

Dezy Bedard pitched a five-inning complete game, allowing one hit and fanning six in his 67-pitch outing.

The tournament is named in memory of Kevin Siddall, a promising young player who played ball from the age of four until he was diagnosed with lymphoma at age 14.

Kevin was the son of Sportsnet’s legendary broadcaster Joe Siddall, a former major league catcher.

In 10U action … Barrie knocked off Bradford 13-3. Barrie knocked off La Salle in the semifinal 13-4 while Bradford scored a 10-0 win against Hamilton.

Barrie went 3-0 in pool play beating Kitchener 14-4, East York 14-5 and Lakeshore 13-8.
