Cazorla, Geekie, Zdunich combine for seven hits in Dawgs' win

The Okotoks Dawgs defeated the Fort McMurray Giants 8-3 at Seaman Stadium on Wednesday night.

Solid pitching and hot bats powered the Dawgs’ offence. With the win, the Dawgs improve to 16-5 on the season and remain atop the west division.

Bobby Vath made his season debut on the mound and did not disappoint. Vath pitched six innings, allowed two hits and finished with six strikeouts earning his first win of the season. David Case made his first relief appearance of the season and Seth Thompson (Calgary, Alta.) closed the game out.

Tucker Zdunich (High River, Alta.) led the Dawgs’ offence with three hits and added one RBI. Noah Geekie (Strathclair, Man.) continued his impressive play at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two RBIs and his first triple of the season. Ricky Sanchez had another solid game, going 2-for-3 with one walk and one RBI. Alejandro Cazorla (Calgary, Alta.) smashed his second home run of the year and finished with two hits and two RBIs.

The Dawgs will be back in action on Thursday night as they take on the Giants for their series finale.
