College Wrap XXI: Burgmann, DeCooman advance to Omaha

Vauxhall Academy Jets grad RHP Josh Burgmann (Nanaimo, BC) is a Washington Husky headed to Omaha, Neb. and the College World Series.

The NCAA D1 Super Regionals took place June 8-11. A total of 16 teams were paired into eight best-of-three match ups with the winners advancing to the College World Series.

There were five Canadians on four teams representing Canada. 

LHP Ben Onyshko (Winnipeg, MB) a senior with Stetson
OF Cooper Davis (Mississauga, ON) a fresham with Vanderbilt
DH Edouard Julien Quebec City, QC) a freshman with Auburn
LHP Jack DeCooman (North Vancouver, BC) freshmen with Washington
RHP Josh Burgmann (Nanaimo, BC) a freshman with Washington

In Super Regional action:
Auburn was defeated by Florida 2 games to 1 in Gainesville FL.
Stetson was defeated by North Carolina in 2 games in Chapel Hill, NC.
Vanderbilt was defeated by Mississippi State 2 games to 1 in Nashville, TN.
Washington defeated Cal St. Fullerton in Fullerton, CA to advance to the College World Series.

Pitching for Canada were:
Ben Onyshko 1 APP, facing 7 batters and striking out 4 in 1.1 scoreless innings.
Jack DeCooman 1 APP, getting an important out against the one batter he faced.
Josh Burgmann 1 APP, facing 16 batters in 4 innings giving up only 1 run (earned).

Hitting for Canada was

Edouard Julien who was designated hitter, batting clean-up in 2 two games with 7 at bats, 1 hit, 1 run, 1 RBI and a walk.  An impressive achievement for a Freshman seeing big tournament action!

Up next
The College World Series takes place in Omaha. NB starting June 15.

Washington is slotted into Bracket 1 along with Oregon St. North Carolina and Mississippi S.

The bracket winner will advance to the finals to play the winner of Bracket 2 teams Arkansas, Florida, Texas and Texas Tech.
