By Bob Elliott LHP Ryan Kellogg continues to roll along.

And so does his interest in him leading into the 2015 June draft.

“He’s a little like Jeff Francis -- except he’s doing it against better competition,” said one scout. “I know there are some pretty good position players coming out of Canada for next June, but if a club needs pitching, I could see Kellogg being the top Canadian.”

Both OF Demi Orimoloye (Orleans, Ont.) of the Ottawa-Nepean Canadians and 1B Josh Naylor (Mississauga, Ont.) of the Ontario Blue Jays have progressed on the showcase circuit this summer.

Naylor was at the Perfect Game National Showcase in Fort Myers, the Area Code Games in Long Beach, the All-American Classic held at Petco Park in San Diego, Calif., the Under Armour All American Showcase at Wrigley Field and the Junior Home Run Derby at Target Field in Minneapolis, losing in the final.

Ormiloye was at the East Coast Pro Showcase, dominated at the Area Codes earning the top prospect honours from Perfect Game and was at Wrigley Field too.

Naylor is listed 31st on Perfect Game’s list top 500 high schoolers in North America, while Ormiloye is listed 44th.

Kellogg, an Ontario Prospects grad, pitches for Arizona State in the fall and spring. And in the summer he was with the Bourne Braves in the Cape Cod League, respected as the top college summer league. And after his summer the lefty was ranked 73rd on Perfect Games’s top 200 Cape prospects. “I don’t know how many pitchers have dominated Team USA in the juniors, has success at a big-time program like Arizona State and then had two successful summers on the Cape,” said another evaluator.

Kellogg joined a small, select list of Cape League players to earn Coca-Cola Pitcher of the Week honors twice in a single season.

He was instrumental in carrying the Braves to victory against the Chatham Anglers at Veterans Field. The southpaw struck out 11 Anglers and gave up only one hit over nine scoreless innings.

This summer the grad of Rob and Rich Butler’s program was 4-2 in seven starts with a 2.63 ERA he walked 12 and struck out 37 in 41 innings.

In the summer of 2013 Kellogg was outstanding coming off his freshman season at Arizona State.

Counting a playoff start as well as the all-star game appearance Kellogg was 3-0 in eight games -- seven starts -- with a 1.98 ERA. He walked seven and struck out 32 in 41 innings.

A 2013 West Division All-Star, Kellogg is also a two-time All-Pac-12 First Team member and two-time Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week Award winner. Kellogg was a 12th round selection of the Toronto Blue Jays in 2012.

Also making the top 200 was INF Brendan Hendriks (Cochrane, Alta.), who plays for the San Francisco Dons, spent the summer with the Cotuit Kettleers was 181st on the top 200 list of prospects.

Counting the playoffs, Hendriks hit .316 with eight doubles, two homers and 18 RBIs in 38 games.

The Handley Man Can: OF Toby Handley (Whitby, Ont.) was ranked the 26th best prospect on Perfect Game’s top 30 prospects from the New England Collegiate Baseball League.

Handley, who will play for the Stony Brook Seawolves next spring and is an Ontario Terriers grad, had an outstanding summer with the Mystic Schooners.

Handley finished third in the league with a. 351 batting average. He was amongst the leaders with 47 hits (second), 28 runs scored (first) , 11 doubles (first), 15 stolen bases and 16 RBIs in 33 games. He also hit a homer and was named as a starter to All-Star game.
