R.I.P. Allen Loewen
Baseball Canada is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Allen Loewen, father of Junior National Team alumni and long-time National Team player, Adam Loewen. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Adam, his mother Anne along with his brother Aaron and sister Adrienne.
Allen was the father of Baltimore Orioles first-round pick, the highest high schooler ever drafted, when he went fourth over-all in 2002. Allen was cleaning his gutters, fell off his ladder, went into a coma and passed away this week.
A teacher in Ladner, B.C. and an outstanding volleyball coach, retiring a couple of years ago.
Drafted as a pitcher, fourth over-all in North America in 2002, Adam was converted to an outfielder, after two elbow fractures and played 15 games with the 2011 Jays. This season, Adam, 29, hit .269 with 15 homers, 60 RBIs in 115 games with a .797 OPS at double-A New Hampshire.
A Celebration of Al’s Life will be held at Peace Portal Alliance Church at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Transplant Research Foundation of BC: 778-385-4483 (GIVE).
LOEWEN, Allen James
May 11, 1952 - October 16, 2013
It is with great sadness that Al’s family announces his passing this life after a tragic accident. Al Loewen was born in Matsqui, BC to Betty and Abe (deceased) Loewen and had two brothers, Ken and Chuck. Al married Anne Barton, in 1975, and he was a loving father to their three children, Aaron, Adrienne (Joe) Melissen and Adam (Lynda) Loewen. He was a treasured “Papa” to Adrienne and Joe’s children, Mariama, Miles, and William. Al graduated from UBC in 1976 and taught PE and Math at Sands Junior Secondary and Delta Senior Secondary where he coached many different sports teams. Al’s two passions in life were his family and his faith. A Celebration of Al’s Life will be held at Peace Portal Alliance Church at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22. The church is located on the southwest corner of King George Boulevard and 152nd Street in Surrey, B.C. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the TRF of BC (Transplant Research Foundation of BC) E-mail: foundation@transplant.bc.ca
