Weston makes all-tourney team, Procopio pops

Oakville’s Blake Weston made the all-tournament team at 16th annual Junior Sunbelt Classic in McAlester Oak.
Composed of nine Ontario Terriers, six Toronto Mets, four Windsor Selects and Weston, Ontario wound up the tourney with a 4-6 record finishing seventh in the 10-team field.
Weston had wins over sixth-place Oklahoma Gold and fourth-placed Mississippi.
Guelph’s Matthew Beaton pitched a 5-2 win over eighth-place win over Missouri.
Toronto’s Daniel Procopio had a coming out party, his fastball clocked at 93 MPH.
Whitby’s JD Osborne picked up a win in relief of Toronto’s Brent Cleland in a 4-3 win over 10th-place Oklahoma Blue as Whitby’s Toby Handley had a walk off single.
Cambridge’s Pat Coughlin went 8-for-18 with four doubles while Richmond Hill’s Nick Dimpfel was 8-for-19 with three doubles and a homer. Acton’s T.J. Baker led with five RBIs and six hits, while Toronto’s Brandon Keys, Hamilton’s Marcus Dicenzo (a much better player than his father ever was) and Mississauga’s Callum Murphy each had six hits.
Team Tennessee won for the second year beating Team Arizona.
Prospects in final: Whitby lefty Ryan Kellogg pitched a complete game, four hitter as the Ontario Prospects blanked Bo Jackson’s Illinois Sparks 6-0 at the University of Notre Dame tournament in South Bend, Ind.
Kellogg, a 12th-round pick of the Blue Jays, walked one and struck out 14.
The Prospects lost 8-2 in the championship final against Jackson’s other team, the Illinois Sparks Chicago.
Rich and Rob Butler’s second finished second in pool play of the 29-team tourney going 5-0.
Lefty Cory Duggan pitched a complete game one hitter in a 2-1 win over Michigan Elite Black, as he walked five and struck out 10. Duggan registered another win, pitching 4 1/3 innings allowing six hits and one run.
T.J. Campbell threw the third Prospects complete game in a 3-1 win over the Michigan Elite in the quarter final. He didn’t allow a run, walking a pair and fanning nine. Campbell also won earlier working six innings allowing two runs as he walked two and fanned five.
The Prospects are at the Sandlott World Series Event in Nashville, July 11-15.
Also in Notre Dame: Catcher Lucas Pattison had three hits and Adam Prashad pitched the win as the Oakville Royals opened with a 9-5 win over Buffalo A-Turf Titans.
The Royals lost 13-5 to the Glenview Bombers (Ill.), 6-5 to Orland Park Magic and 9-2 to the Chicago Stars as Matt Lahn took the loss.
Mark Wilush scattered six hits through in seven and Prashad worked the eighth for the save in a 4-3 win over previously unbeaten Illinois Sparks at Eck Stadium home of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Kaleb Leff, Cam Wilkie and Brendan O’Flynn each had two hits.
In the swamp: Caledon’s Tysen Hansen pitched the Oakville Royals 18s to an 11-5 win over Underwood Orr in the Black Swamp tournament in Bowling Green, Ohio.
Oakville began with an 11-7 loss to the Metro Detroit Athletics. Then, Oakville beat Player I Bulls 16-9 and the Northwest Ohio Hurricanes 6-5, while losing to Michigan Bulls 3-2 in a rain shortened game, despite the strong outing from Prashad.
Wilkie and Leff led the Royals attack.
Loss in final: The Ontario Prospects 11U lost in the championship game of Cavalier Diamond Classic in Flint, Mich.
The Prospects who gained entry when another team cancelled, were 2-0-1 in pool play, won the semi-final and led in the final until the bottom of the fifth.
Tyler Black hit .710 with four home runs and two doubles.

Former Jays outfielder Adam Loewen is back in action at triple-A Buffalo after a hand injury. And Loewen hit .467 (7-for-15) with two homers and seven RBIs, as the best of the 107 Canadians in the minors.
