Dawgs sweep mini series against Edmonton

The Dawgs won a nail biter in 12 innings to complete the series sweep against the visiting Edmonton Prospects, winning by a score of 4-3.

Josh McIntyre (Everett Community College) continued his exceptional start to the season, batting in two of the Dawgs’ runs. Doug Clapperton (Calgary, Alta., University of Texas Permian Basin) and Daniel Fredrickson (Gonzaga University) also had solid nights at the plate, recording two hits apiece.

Fredrickson also had a spectacular performance in the outfield, making an incredible diving catch in the 10th inning.

Liam Stroud (Maple Ridge, BC, Niagara University) started on the mound for the Dawgs. Stroud went 5 2/3 innings, giving up eight hits and striking out two batters. Anthony Balderas (Lewis-Clark State University), Christian Parsons (Lower Columbia College) and Ben Thompson (Dawgs Baseball Academy) all provided relief and helped solidify the win for the Dawgs.

The Dawgs travelled to Brooks ... on Sunday to face off against the 1-7 Bombers and in the first meeting since the Bombers joined the WMBL, the Dawgs defeated the struggling Bombers 7-3.

The Dawgs were lead by new comer Sam Wong (Treasure Valley Community College), who in his first outing as a Dawg pitched seven complete innings allowing one run and six hits while striking out six Bombers.

Ian Scott (Linn Benton Community College) also made his debut in the Dawgs win pitching 1 inning.

Offensively, the Dawgs were lead by Peter Hutzal (Calgary, Alta. Dawgs Baseball Academy) who collected three hits including a two-run home run, his second of the season in the eighth inning. JT Patterson (Calgary, Alta., Northeastern Junior College) and McIntyre each added two hits a piece in the victory.

The Dawgs will enjoy a day off on Monday before traveling to Lethbridge to take on the Bulls.

After facing off against the Bulls, the Dawgs will open a four-game home stand over five days starting on Wednesday night as they take on the Medicine Hat Mavericks. The home stand will conclude with the Father’s Day game on Sunday. Tickets are going quickly this year as the Dawgs have averaged over 3,500 fans per game to start the season.
