Dawgs roll over Fort McMurray

OKOTOKS, Alta. _ The Okotoks Dawgs (32-14) defeated the Fort McMurray Giants (16-32) 10-0 after the game was called due to rain after the completion of the fifth inning.

Bo Lewington (Calgary, Alta.) stands in the Dawgs dugout -- along with the rain drops. 

The Dawgs started hot and never left up, as they started the game with three runs off the bat. Elliot Cary (Oregon State) had two hits and two runs along with one walk. 

Daniel Fredrickson (Gonzaga University) had two runs and two walks including an amazing over the sholder diving catch in deep right field in the fourth inning. Brendan Rose (University of British Columbia) had another multi-hit game as he had two hits, two runs and a walk against the Giants. 

Justin King (Dawgs Baseball Academy) had one hit, but made it count as it was a three-run double. Joel Brophy (University of Niagara) hitting his first home run, a solo shot to left field. 

Michael Gretler (Oregon State University) had a three-run double, as Josh McIntyre (Everette Community College) had a 2 RBI double against Fort McMurray.

Liam Stroud (University of Niagara) was lights out against the Giants. Stroud got his second win of the year, moving to 2-2 overall through 9 starts this season. He pitched 5 1/3 innings, only allowing three hits a walk and mowing down eight runners as the Dawgs got their 32nd win.

With the win tonight, the Dawgs clinched first place in the West. They will play the Edmonton Prospects in the first round of the Western conference semi finals. The first two games of the series will be at Seaman Stadium on Monday, July 31st and Tuesday, Aug. 1st.
