The Erindale Cardinals current team took on the Cardinals Alumni in the annual Erindale Cardinals Alumni game at Greg Cranker Field,
This year had a very special feel to it as it is the 35th year that Erindale skipper Greg Cranker has been coaching the Cardinals senior club. It was a fantastic day for a person who has put so much into in the Erindale Baseball Association.
The alumni got off to a quick start in this one as they escaped a bases loaded one out jam in the top of the first inning and then put up two quick runs off of Erindale starter Frankie Coccia. The current Cards answered back in the third putting up two runs of their own to tie the game.
The alumni put it out of reach in the bottom of the fourth as they pasted Erindale pitcher and loser John Amendola for five runs to take a commanding 7-2 lead. The Cards got a couple of runners on in the top of the fifth inning but couldn’t push anyone across making the final score 7-2 for the Erindale Alumni Team.
Jeff Smith was the winning pitcher for the alumni while Sandro Caccaro who had a great game behind the dish and at the plate was named the MVP of the game.
Best man is the house as always was former pitching coach Ron Cabot who observed from the reserved picnic table down the right field line.
Cabot ran the Mississauga Sabres which morphed into the Cardinals along with Ed Howell, Brad Foster and Al Gorrill.
Some of the illustrious group on hand included Eddie (Trigger) Falcioni, Domenic Falcone, Alpha King, Marc Godin, Eddie Stodulski and Mike (Enunciate) Tough part of the 1986 OBA junior C champs, Erindale's first championship.
