VICTORIA, B.C. – Right-handed pitcher Will McAffer (South Dakota State) had a dominant week for the Victoria HarbourCats that has earned him two major accolades.
McAffer started two games during the week of June 13-19, pitching a total of 11.2 shutout innings on just four hits and four walks with 19 strikeouts. He was 2-0 in his starts, defeating the Gresham GreyWolves on June 14, and the Cowlitz Black Bears on June 19, both at Royal Athletic Park in Victoria.
Those performances earned Pitcher of the Week honors from the West Coast League for the 2015 Cincinnati Reds draft pick and South Dakota State freshman.
McAffer is the second consecutive HarbourCat to win the award after right-hander Dalton Erb won it for the week of June 6-12.
The North Vancouver, BC native also beat out 120 nominations to be named National Pitcher of the Week by Collegiate Summer Baseball.
McAffer has played a key part in the HarbourCats 11-game win streak, which they carry into play this week. The team plays a non-league game at Royal Athletic Park against the Victoria Selects on Wednesday before returning to West Coast League action on the weekend when they host the Kitsap Blue Jackets in a three-game series.
