Blue Jays from Away
The Blue Jays’ minor league clubs had one of their best days in a while, going 5-2 in completed games with Dunedin winning convincingly thanks to two of the Blue Jays’ top prospects.
Buffalo Bisons 8, Syracuse Chiefs 2
After snapping a losing streak on Friday, the Bisons have got a two-game winning streak going now after beating the Syracuse Chiefs 8-2 on Saturday. The Herd’s offense finally got into gear, slamming out 15 hits and getting two from the first seven batters in the order. Dalton Pompey (2/4, 2 R, BB), Ryan Goins (2/4, 2B, 2 R), Chris Colabello (2/5, RBI, R), Jesus Montero (2/5, RBI), Domonic Brown (2/5, 4 RBI), Matt Dominguez (2/5, 2B, R) and Casey Kotchman (2/3, BB) all had two hits while A.J. Jimenez was 1/3 with a walk and a double, driving in a run and scoring once.
Scott Diamond was on the mound to start, throwing five scoreless innings with five hits against and striking out five. Matt Dermody allowed two unearned runs over two innings while Ben Rowen (2/3 IP, H), Aaron Loup (1 1/3 IP, 2 H, 4 K) and Dustin Antolin (1 IP, 1 H) finished off the game.
Player of the Game: Scott Diamond and Domonic Brown
New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3, Richmond Flying Squirrels 1
The Fisher Cats took nine innings to score and 10 innings to score enough to win, but they managed to beat out the Richmond Flying Squirrels for a win on Saturday night. Emilio Guerrero cranked his first home with New Hampshire this year in the top of the 10th, going 2/4. Jason Leblebijian (2/4), Christian Lopes (2/5, R) and Rowdy Tellez (2/4) also had two hits each.
John Anderson started for the Fisher Cats and, despite needing 46 pitches, showed more excellent results, allowing just one hit and striking out four. Jason Berken then went four innings, giving up Richmond’s only run on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts before John Stilson threw two scoreless innings, walking two and allowing two hits. Murphy Smith earned the win with an inning of one-walk ball and Chris Smith picked up his seventh save with a clean 10th, striking out two.
Player of the Game: Emilio Guerrero
Dunedin Blue Jays 9, Jupiter Hammerheads 3
Dunedin’s top young players were their top players on Saturday, giving the Jays a 9-3 win over the Jupiter Hammerheads. Sean Reid-Foley was on the mound, allowing just one hit and one run over 6 2/3 innings, walking four and striking out nine, needing 99 pitches. Brad Allen allowed two runs in 1/3 of an inning following him but Jose Fernandez held the line there, pitching two hitless innings, walking one and striking out two to finish the game.
Anthony Alford was 3/4 with a single, a double, and a home run, scoring twice and adding a walk as he continues to break out with the D-Jays. Jonathan Davis hit his 13th home run of the year, going 2/4 with two runs and two RBI. Dickie Joe Thon was 2/4 with a run while Jorge Flores was 2/4 with a run and an RBI. Richard Urena was 1/3 with a walk, an RBI and a run while Michael De La Cruz drove in two runs, going 1/3 with a walk.
Player of the Game: Anthony Alford and Sean Reid-Foley
Lansing Lugnuts 3, Fort Wayne TinCaps 4
The Lugnuts fell 4-3 in 15 innings to open their series against the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Saturday. Angel Perdomo went five innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits with five strikeouts before Daniel Lietz provided five scoreless innings of relief, striking out five and allowing only three hits and a walk. Andrew Case added another two scoreless innings to that while Daniel Young was charged with a loss, giving up a run in the 15th, throwing 2 1/3 innings.
Connor Panas led the offense with three hits, going 3/6 with a solo home run. Andrew Guillotte hit a double and a triple, going 2/6 with two runs and Ryan Hissey was 2/6 with a double.

Vancouver Canadians 5, Tri-City Dust Devils 4
Errors in the bottom of the ninth cost the Tri-City Dust Devils the win as the Canadians came back to win the game 5-4. Patrick Murphy started for the Canadians, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk with three strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings. Evan Smith added 3 1/3 solid innings, allowing just one run (which turned out to be the winner) on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
Joshua Palacios had two hits, a walk and a stolen base, driving in two runs while Josh Reavis walked three times and Christian Williams and Cavan Biggio walked twice. Nash Knight was 1/5in his Vancouver debut but brought home the winning run, reaching on an error in the bottom of the ninth.

Bluefield Blue Jays 5, Greeneville Astros 8
The Greeneville Astros got to the Bluefield bullpen, scoring six times in the top of the eighth innings to snatch a victory away from the home side. Jose Espada was working quickly through the Astros’ lineup and lodged five innings of two-run ball, allowing six hits and one walk, striking out three. Jose Nova pitched two strong innings but got into trouble in the eighth, loading the bases for Conner Eller (after walking three and giving up one hit in 2 2/3 innings). Eller allowed all three runners to score, walking in the first and then giving up a two-run single to clear the bases of the inherited runners and gave up three more runs (including a home run). Eller pitched the ninth too and was ultimately charged with three runs on two hits and a walk over 1 1/3 innings.
Levi Scott continues to swing a hot bat, going 2/4 with a double and two RBI. Andrew Florides was 2/4 with an RBI and a stolen base while Reggie Pruitt hit a double.

GCL Blue Jays 2, GCL Phillies 5
Game suspended due to rain. To be completed August 15, 2016.
DSL Blue Jays 2, DSL Reds 1
Excellent pitching again gave the DSL Blue Jays a win on Saturday. Meliton Reyes threw six stellar innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out seven. Emmanuel Ryees gave up a run on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts in two innings while Claudio Galva picked up his first professional save, striking out two batters in the ninth.
Yorman Rodriguez hit a double and a triple, driving in a run and going 2/4 while Mc Gregory Contreras also had two hits, going 2/3 with a walk and a stolen base.
