Blue Jays from Away

It wasn’t a prodigious night for the Blue Jays’ affiliates’ offense but it was enough to salvage a 4-4 record on Monday night thanks to some great pitching performances.

Buffalo Bisons 3, Indianapolis Indians 1
The Bisons extended their winning streak to seven games with a 3-1 win over the Louisville Bats. Andy Burns led off the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning and Jesus Montero hit his eight of the year in the same frame, going 2/4. Melky Mesa also had two hits, going 2/3 with a double and a walk.

On the mound, Chris Leroux kept the Bats at bay, going 6 2/3 innings and allowing one run on seven hits with one strikeout. Pat Venditte went 2/3 of an inning, as did Chad Jenkins while Dustin Antolin saved his eighth game, striking out two in his inning.

Player of the Game: Chris Leroux and Jesus Montero

Roster Notes: Chad Girodo was optioned by the Blue Jays and Ryan Tepera was called back up.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 2, Hartford Yard Goats 8
Jeremy Gabryszwski had a rare poor start but the offense couldn’t get much going either in an 8-2 loss to the Hartford Yard Goats. Gabryszwski allowed seven runs on eight hits with one walk and two strikeouts in four innings. Daniel Schlereth relieved him and got out of the fifth stranding one of the two runners he inherited from Gabryszwski, giving up two hits and a walk. Murphy Smith threw two strong innings, allowing a hit and two walks with three strikeouts while John Stilson gave up a run on three hits and a walk in his inning. Matt Dermody threw a perfect ninth, striking out one.

The Fisher Cats only had six hits including a single and a walk from Jason Leblebijian and doubles from Matt Dean (who also walked) and Christian Lopes. Rowdy Tellez was 1/3 with a walk.

Player of the Game: None

Dunedin Blue Jays 2, Lakeland Flying Tigers 1
Dunedin came out on top of a pitchers’ duel, defeating the Lakeland Flying Tigers to square their record at 37-37. Chris Rowley has really rounded into form and had a terrific start, throwing eight innings and allowing only one run on a solo home run among five hits and one walk with four strikeouts. Colton Turner allowed two hits in 1/3 of an inning and Carlos Ramirez bailed him out, stranding two runners and earning the save.

The Blue Jays only had three hits of their own including a solo home run from Jorge Saez (his sixth) and doubles from Ryan McBroom and Anthony Alford, accounting for the second run.

Player of the Game: Chris Rowley

Lansing Lugnuts 5, Great Lakes Loons 6
The Lugnuts’ bullpen wasted a strong start by Angel Perdomo, allowing the Great Lakes Loons to walk off with a 6-5 victory. Perdomo was excellent, going 6 2/3 innings with two runs allowed on four hits and three walks but striking out 12 along the way. Danny Young stranded a runner but walked his first batter in the eighth, who then scored while Ryan Cook was on the mound. Cook allowed a run of his own on a hit and a walk in one inning with a strikeout while Dusty Isaacs was tagged with the blown save and the loss, giving up two runs in the bottom of the ninth on two hits and a walk.

With only five hits, the Lugnuts were very efficient, getting home runs from the red-hot Connor Panas (2/3, BB, HR) and Max Pentecost (2/4, HR, 2 RBI, 2B).

Player of the Game: Angel Perdomo, Connor Panas and Max Pentecost

Roster Notes: Juan Tejada was promoted from Vancouver to Lansing.
