The Blue Jays’ six highest minor league teams were in action (as the GCL and DSL regularly have Sundays off) and they played to a 2-4 record while seeing the return of a familiar face in Buffalo.

Buffalo Bisons 1, Gwinnett Braves 2
Finishing with the exact same score (2-1) as their previous match, the Bisons and Gwinnett Braves battled on Sunday with the Braves securing the victory. Making his first start since returning from Korea, Copeland allowed two runs on five hits in three innings before Wilmer Font took over with four innings of impressive ball, allowing only one hit (despite allowing both inherited runners from Copeland to score). Aaron Loup (1 IP) and Danny Barnes (1 IP, 1 K), finished the game.

Darrell Ceciliani provided all of the Bisons’ scoring, going 2/4 with a home run while Ryan Goins also had two hits, going 2/3 with a walk. Jose Bautista, playing his final rehab game, was 0/4, and apparently was booed when failing to run out a double-play ground ball. Andy Burns hit a double and walked twice.

Player of the Game: Darrell Ceciliani

Roster Notes: Ryan Tepera was recalled by the Blue Jays and Scott Copeland was activated. Bobby Korecky was placed on the 7-day DL.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 1, Trenton Thunder 3
Ian Parmley provided all the scoring for the Fisher Cats as they were beaten again by the Yankees’ Double-A farm club, the Trenton Thunder. Parmley was 1/4 with a solo home run and six other players got hits for the Fisher Cats although Ryan McBroom is still searching for his first Double-A hit.

Taylor Cole had a solid start for the Fisher Cats, going six innings and allowing three runs on nine hits and two walks with seven strikeouts. John Anderson had his best outing in quite some time, throwing two innings of one-hit, one-run ball, striking out three and Jason Berken struck out two in the ninth.

Player of the Game: Ian Parmley and Taylor Cole

Dunedin Blue Jays 0, Jupiter Hammerheads 5
Sean Reid-Foley had a solid start against the Jupiter Hammerheads but the Dunedin offense was stifled completely for the second game in a row, losing 5-0. Reid-Foley went 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts, needing 97 pitches. Brad Allen came in with a runner on and stranded him but gave up a three-run home run in the seventh, finishing the game with 2 1/3 innings.

The hitters had four hits, all singles and Gunnar Heidt was on base twice, going 1/3 with a walk and a stolen base while Jonathan Davis was also 1/3 with a walk.

Player of the Game: None

Lansing Lugnuts 4, Kane County Cougars 3
The Lugnuts rode a couple of home runs and a big double to a victory over the Kane County Cougars in a 4-3 win on Sunday. Max Pentecost (2/4, 2B, HR) and Connor Panas (1/4, HR) were the owners of the home runs while player/coach Alex Maldonado was 1/3 with a walk and a double, driving in the winning runs.

A couple of Tommy John survivors soaked up most of the innings on the mound for the Lugnuts. Jordan Romano started and gave up two runs on five hits and four walks with five strikeouts in five innings and Tom Robson allowed a solo home run among five hits in three innings without walking anyone and striking out three. Jackson Lowery earned the save, throwing a perfect ninth.

Player of the Game: Max Pentecost and Alex Maldonado

Roster Notes: Jordan Romano was activated off the DL.

Vancouver Canadians 3, Eugene Emeralds 5
With three runs in the top of the eighth, the Eugene Emeralds held off the Canadians in a 5-3 win for the visitors. Patrick Murphy contributed a solid start for the Cs with six innings of two-run ball, allowing three hits and four walks with six strikeouts. Zach Jackson took the loss, giving up three more runs over 1 1/3 innings on four hits and two walks while Nick Hartman finished the game, striking out one, stranding two inherited runners and pitching 1 2/3 innings.

J.B. Woodman continues his hot streak, pushing his batting average to .302 with a single, a double and two RBI. Rodrigo Orozco was 1/3 with a double, a walk and a stolen base and Deiferson Barreto was 1/2 with a home run and two walks.

Player of the Game: Deiferson Barreto

Bluefield Blue Jays 6, Burlington Royals 5
Despite falling behind 5-3 to the Burlington Royals, the Bluefield Blue Jays got a big, three-run blast in the bottom of the eighth from Bradley Jones and beat the Royals 6-5. Jones was 2/4, scoring twice on the night while Nick Sinay (2/4, RBI, 2 R) and Nash Knight (2/4) also added two hits each. Lance Jones was 2/2 with an RBI and three stolen bases.

Jose Espada put the Blue Jays behind the eight ball, allowing five runs (three earned) on four hits (including a home run) and three walks in 4 1/3 innings, striking out three. Kyle Weatherly earned the win, despite allowing both inherited runners to score (and making a throwing error to boot), with 3 2/3 scoreless innings, giving up four hits and striking out one. Conner Eller saved the game with a perfect ninth.

Player of the Game: Bradley Jones
