Blue Jays from Away
With five games in the books on Wednesday night, the Blue Jays’ minor leaguers picked up three wins including Ws for the Bisons, Dunedin Blue Jays and DSL Blue Jays.

Buffalo Bisons 8, Louisville Bats 1
On a day in which some of the top draft prospects in the NHL came out for batting practice, the Bisons did some scoring of their own, dropping eight runs on the Louisville Bats for a 8-1 win. Jesus Montero drove in three runs, going 2/4 with a run while Junior Lake was on base four times, going 2/2 with two singles and two walks, scoring once and stealing a base. Melky Mesa, recently promoted, was 2/3 with a walk, an RBI and a run. Tony Sanchez drove in two with a double and David Adams on base three times, going 1/2 with a double, two walks and two runs.

Chris Leroux was on the mound and only allowed one unearned run on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts in six innings. Danny Barnes was perfect in his Triple-A debut, throwing two innings with two strikeouts. Dustin Antolin finished it off, giving up a hit and a walk but no runs and striking out the side in the ninth.

Roster Notes: Wade LeBlanc was traded to Seattle for a player to be named later or cash. Danny Barnes was promoted from the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to the Buffalo Bisons.

 
New Hampshire Fisher Cats 1, Erie SeaWolves 2
Shane Dawson had a strong start but the bats wouldn’t support him in a 2-1 loss to the Fisher Cats. Dawson went five innings and allowed just one run on four hits and three walks with three strikeouts. He was followed by Murphy Smith who went three innings and just gave up a solo home run (among two hits and a walk) to take the loss despite striking out four.

The Fisher Cats had just three hits against former Blue Jays’ farmhand Myles Jaye. One of them was a solo home run by Dwight Smith, Jr. for the ‘Cats’ only run.

Roster Notes: Danny Barnes was promoted to Buffalo and Daniel Schlereth was assigned to New Hampshire.

Dunedin Blue Jays 5, Brevard County Manatees 1
Dunedin received quality pitching from Chris Rowley on their way to a 5-1 win over the Brevard County Manatees. Rowley went five innings, giving up four hits (including a solo home run) and struck out six without walking anyone. Adonys Cardona and Conor Fisk followed with scoreless innings while Alonzo Gonzalez, Brad Allen and Carlos Ramirez each pitched 2/3 of an inning to finish the game.

Jonathan Davis, who is red hot, was 1/2 with a double, a walk and two RBI. Anthony Alford returned to the lineup to go 0/3 with a walk while Emilio Guerrero was 1/2 with two walks. Aaron Attaway had a strong game with a single and a double, scoring twice.

Roster Notes: Andy Fermin was placed on the 7-day DL while Anthony Alford was activated from the DL.

All Star Break

Vancouver Canadians 4, Everett Aquasox 6
The Canadians faced off against a familiar foe as Jake Brentz, traded from the Blue Jays to the Mariners at the trade deadline in 2015 toed the rubber for the Everett Aquasox. Justin Maese wasn’t as sharp as he was in the opener, allowing six runs (although only two were earned) on eight hits and one walk, striking out five over six innings. Grayson Huffman had a solid outing, allowing a hit and a walk and striking out a batter in one inning. Gabe Noyalis and Jackson McClelland each provided a scoreless inning to finish the game.

Three Canadians had two-hit games including Jacob Anderson, who was 2/4 with a double, a walk and two RBIs while Yeltsin Gudino was 2/3 with a double, a walk, a run and an RBI. Brian Lizardo was also 2/4 with a triple and a walk but committed an error.

DSL Blue Jays 6, DSL Orioles1 1

The DSL Blue Jays got some great pitching and good hitting to go to 9-6 on the season, beating the DSL Orioles1 club by a 6-1 score. Randy Pondler started for the Jays, going four innings and giving up one run on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Alvaro Galindo followed, earning the win and moving his record to 4-0 with four scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out two. Wilton Mueses (1/3 IP, 2 BB, 1 K) and Meliton Reyes (2/3 IP, S) finished the game.

Victor Figuereo continued his strong start to the season, going 2/2 with a walk and an RBI. Yorman Rodriguez was 2/5 and Jesus Navarro was 0/3 with two walks and two runs.
