July 8-10 Weekend New Hampshire Fisher Cats Report
By Jay Blue

I’m back from my sojourn to the Ottawa area for a couple of performances at a Medieval Festival where Wi-Fi wasn’t part of the package. It’s time to catch up on the weekend’s action in the Blue Jays’ minor leagues. The Fisher Cats split their three-game series with the Binghamton Mets (with one game rained out) and head to their All-Star Break in fourth place in the Eastern Division of the Eastern League at 40-49, 22 1/2 games back of the Reading Fightin Phils.

Friday
New Hampshire Fisher Cats 7, Binghamton Mets 9

Jeremy Gabryszwski started the game on Friday, posting a decent start for the Fisher Cats but the Bullpen let things get away in the sixth inning, allowing Gabryszwski to take the loss. In five innings, Gaby allowed only two runs on four hits and four walks with four strikeouts but John Stilson ran into trouble in the sixth, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits in 2/3 of an inning before Tim Mayza put out the fire. Mayza allowed two more runs of his own, on two hits and three walks with two strikeouts in two innings and Wil Browning allowed a hit and a walk but no runs (and no inherited runners to score) in 1 1/3 innings.

The offense scored seven times on 14 hits but still couldn’t overcome the nine runs that Binghamton eventually got. Christian Lopes continues to swing a hot bat, going 3/5 with a double, RBI and a run while Rowdy Tellez also had three hits, going 3/5 with two runs. Jason Leblebijian (2/5, RBI), Emilio Guerrero (2/4, BB, 2B, RBI) and Ian Parmley (2/4, R) also had two hits apiece and Ryan Lavarnway was 1/3 with an RBI, two walks and two runs.

Shane Dawson was on the hill and earned his fifth win of the season as the Fisher Cats squared their series against the Binghamton Mets while Rowdy Tellez continued to slug and make his All-Star selection prove correct. Dawson went five innings, allowing just one run on six hits and three walks with four strikeouts while Luis Santos, likely getting some work before the break, threw three innings, giving up two runs on five hits with three strikeouts. Chris Smith allowed a run on three hits with a strikeout in the ninth.

Rowdy was 1/4 with a home run and three RBI and scored twice while Dwight Smith, Jr. hit his ninth home run of the year, going 1/4 with a two-run blast.
