Maybe Jordan Romano was stretched out.

Maybe he was primed and ready to throw 90 or even 100 pitches.

Who knows how many outings he had, how many pitches he threw at extended spring training and the Bobby Mattick Training Center in Dunedin.

Still it wa quite a shock when Romano saw his first game action in 654 days starting for the class-A Lansing Lugnuts ... AND ... he finished.

Romano pitched a seven-inning complete game throwing 81 pitches in an 11-1 win over the Great Lake Loons in the the first game of the doubleheader. A total of 2,256 fans saw Lansing win the opener in a walk and then former No. 1 pick Jon Harris win the nitecap, 4-1.

Drafted by the Jays in the 10th round of the 2014 draft from the Oral Roberts University Golden Eagles, Romano pitched for the Ontario Blue Jays before heading off to school. After turning pro he had worked in 13 games -- all in relief -- pitching 28 innings.

So, much for the patient approach we have been hearing about with regards to prospects. Romano went from rehabbing reliever to dominant starter. And for that Romano earns Canadian Baseball Network Player of the Week honors for Week 10, the best of the almost 100 Canadian playing pro ball.

Romano allowed two hits, including a solo home run and one more hit over seven innings. He didn’t walk a man and struck out seven.

The anticipation for Blue Jays Prospect Jordan Romano in making this start must have been very nerve racking, because it was to be his first appearance in a game since August 2014. The 21 year old Markham native had sustained an injury which required Tommy John surgery, and he also missed the entire 2015 season. After a long
and successful re hab process, on June 13th of this week in a 4-1 victory over Great Lakes Loons in the first game of a doubleheader, he pitched seven innings gave up two base hits and one earned run while striking out seven Great Lakes batters, to earn the win. His record with Lansing in the Single A Midwest League now stands at
1-0 with a 1.29 ERA.

Nick Pivetta made another excellent start this week on June 12th in a 7-3 victory over Altoona Curve, a game in which he threw seven scoreless innings gave up just three base hits while striking out four Altoona hitters, but he was not involved in the decision. This outing improved his record in 12 starts with Reading in the Double A Eastern League to 6-4 with a 3.67 ERA.

Maintaining a high level of consistency, Shane Dawson again had a very good outing for the Fisher Cats this past week. On June 12th in a 7-3 victory over Bowie Baysox he pitched 6 1/3 innings, gave up three base hits and one earned run, while striking out three Bowie batters, to earn his fourth win of the season. His record with New Hampshire in the Double A Eastern League now stands at 4-3 with a 3.62 ERA.
