Nick Pivetta, CBN POW, Week XI
By George Farelli
Canadian Baseball Network
Nick Pivetta is a lot like Ted Cruz.
Neither can be the next President of the United States of America.
Pivetta, however, is a sitting Senator.
Actually he sat five Senators pitching a nine-inning, complete-game 4-0 win for the Reading Fightin Phils over the Harrisburg Senators before 6,187 fans at FNB Field at Harrisburg.
The nine scoreless inning and the win gave the Reading right-hander Canadian Baseball Network Canadian college player of the week ... the best of the 114 Canucks in the minors.
Pivetta )Victoria, BC) recorded eight ground ball outs and eight fly ball outs in his 117-pitch outing (76 strikes). Pivetta also went 2-for-2 with a run-scoring single to pick up his seventh win.
It was the first nine-inning complete game shutout by a Reading pitcher since David Buchanon against Harrisburg on May 28, 2012 in Harrisburg. The win gave Reading an 11-game winning streak, its first since 1976.
The nine zeros lowered Pivetta’s ERA to 3.27.

If there is one way a starter could demonstrate his dominance over an opponent, I would say a nine inning complete game shutout might do the trick. On June 17th in a 4-0 victory over Harrisburg Senators Nick Pivetta did just that, when he tossed nine innings and gave up seven base hits and no runs while striking out five Harrisburg hitters, to earn his seventh win of the season. This start improved his record with Reading to 7-4 with a 3.27 ERA.

Jon Fitzsimmons continues to excel as a very key member of the Quebec bullpen this season, in fact in 14 relief appearances, he has yet to surrender an earned run. He pitched in two games this week a 4-2 win over Ottawa Champions on June 16th and a 6-5 victory over Sussex County on June 20th, and each case earned a Save. These two appearances improved his IND Can Am League record to 1-0, with six Saves and a perfect 0.00 ERA.
