Prospects oust Okotoks in four

EDMONTON, Alta. _ The Dawgs stumbled in Game 4 losing 10-5 to the Edmonton Prospects dropping the best-of-five Western Major Baseball League series 3-1. 

On the mound Nick Vickers (Northeastern Junior College) went five innings allowing four earned runs on five hits while striking out six. 

The Prospects will play the Medicine Hat Mavericks in the division final.

Jordan Zazulak had Edmonton’s first hit, a 400-foot triple to centre and after Derek Shedden was hit by a pitch, Tony Olson hit a fly to shallow right to advance the runners. Shedden was off an running ... a snow ball fight ensued and the Dawgs were charged with three errors on the play.

Cory Scammell had a two-run single, while Olson had two more RBIs with a triple to the warning track in left-centre.

In relief Taylor Davis (Everett Community College) struggled allowing runs, three of which were earned in his appearance. 

Also pitching in relief was Anthony Baldaras (Lewis & Clark State) who went three innings allowing two hits and striking out three. 

Elliott Cary knocked in three runs by collecting three hits.

The Dawgs offence put up four runs on nine hits. The offence was lead by Elliot Cary (Oregon State) who went 3-5 with 3 RBIs. Drake Kirkwood (Colby Community College), Michael Gretler (Oregon State) and Tyler Mildenberg (Dixie State University) added two hits each.

Game 3 ... The Dawgs defeated the Prospects 6-3 in Edmonton.

The offence was lead by Elliot Cary (Oregon State) who went 4-for-5 with a RBI thanks to his second solo home run of the series. 

Other top performers included Kellen Marruffo (University of Utah) who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and an RBI and Josh McIntyre (Everette Community College) going 2-4 with a walk. 

On the mound the Dawgs got a strong performance out of Liam Stroud (Niagara University) who went seven innings allowing one earned run while striking out eight Prospects. Tyler Burdett (Dixie State University) came into pitch the final two innings allowing two runs and striking out two.

Game 2 ... Okotoks dropped the second game at Seaman Stadium by a score of 5-2 to fall behind Edmonton 2-0 in the Western Conference semifinals.

Much like the first game, the offence was something that did not come remotely easy for the Dawgs. Okotoks had four hits and only two runs along with two errors recorded, as Elliot Cary (Oregon State University) had a solo shot to right field as his only hit. 

Drake Kirkwood (Colby Community College) had one hit and an RBI in his three at bats. Tyler Mildenberg (Dixie State University) and Kellen Marruffo (University of Utah) both had the remaining two hits for the Dawgs. 

CJ Lewington (University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff) got the start against the Prospects and pitched fiveinnings, giving up five hits, three runs -- two earned -- while walking two and striking out two.
