Québec 17 came out on top at the 18U Championship in Sherbrooke, Que. with a 10-7 win over New Brunswick. This year’s gold medalists were ahead by a score of 5-1 on Sunday before the game had to be postponed until Monday.

This marks the third consecutive year that Québec wins gold at the 18U Championship and, just like the last two years, they did it in front of the home crowd.

New Brunswick was handed their first loss of the tournament in the gold medal game and will take home silver. It was their first appearance in the final of the 18U event in over a decade.

A recap of the action:

Québec ’17 10 New Brunswick 7
Édouard Julien (Québec, QC) was a key contributor in the gold medal win going 2 for 5 with a triple, 5 RBIs and a run scored.  Julien’s bases-clearing triple was part of a 4-run inning that gave Québec the early lead in the top of the 2nd just before the game had to be postponed. New Brunswick turned the tables with a 4-run inning of their own in the bottom of the 3rd as Québec’s pitching staff got into a bit of trouble walking 2 and hitting 2 batters with the bases loaded. Reliever Charles Mayer (St Eustache, QC) managed to calm things down, shutting out New Brunswick for the remainder of the game. Mayer struck out 5 over 5 innings on the mound giving up only 1 hit. Julien’s second hit of the game came in the 5th in the form of a 2-RBI single, restoring Québec’s lead. Mayer was perfect on the mound in the bottom of the 7th to seal the deal for Québec.

Up next: Four more Baseball Canada Championships are scheduled to begin on Thursday, August 25th: The Senior Men Championship in Fredericton, NB, the Senior Women Invitational in Red Deer, Alberta, the 15U Championship in Summerside, PE, and the DQ® 13U National Championship in London, ON.
