Young Eyes likes Mets, Royals this week

* Did this man steal the last piece of pizza. Nope. He's New York Mets RHP Bartolo Colon and he's headed for his seventh win ... according to Young Eyes. ....

Young Eyes MLB Weekly Forecast
By Zach Swanson

In this series, MLB Weekly Forecast, I look to the week ahead in Major League Baseball, through a Game of the Week pick and a Series of the Week pick. All stats are as of Sunday, May 19th.

Game of the Week: (22-16) New York Mets (Bartolo Colon, 6-2, 3.86 ERA) vs. (25-12) St. Louis Cardinals (Carlos Martinez, 3-2, 4.73 ERA), Wednesday

Bartolo Colon seems to keep rolling, and no, he didn’t fall off a hill … He set fire. The big 41-year old, who has 51 IP over eight games started, found his rhythm to start the year off, showing up with a 1.03 WHIP and a .257 OPP/AVG. In Wednesday’s game, he will be countered with young Cards starter Carlos Martinez. Martinez has many similar numbers to Colon, as he shows up to Wednesday’s contest with 40 IP over eight starts, a 1.50 WHIP and a .261 OPP/AVG. This game will be a matchup between a hard-throwing young starter leading his 1st-place team vs. a seasoned veteran trying to keep his team on the winning track.

My pick (2-1): Colon goes to 7-2, in a one-run game.

Series of the Week: (24-14) Kansas City Royals vs. (18-20) Cincinnati Reds, Tuesday-Wednesday
These short but sweet two-game inter league series’ are becoming my favorite thing of the week, and we have another stunner this week. In Game 1 on Tuesday, it’ll be an ace-off between Reds ace Johnny Cueto and Royals ace Yordano Ventura. Ventura, the hard throwing righty who averages about 95 MPH on his fastball, is so far 2-3 on the year, while Cueto is 3-3 so far on the year. In Game 2, it’ll be 3-3 Jason Marquis vs 2-3 Jeremy Guthrie. Back-to-back solid pitching matchups should lead to two very close games.

My pick (1-2): A hot Royals team stays hot at home, sweep the two-game set.
