After setting a home run record this winter in Australia, Deglan is back in North America and he hit his third home run on the season for class-A High Desert Mavericks.

Deglan went 7-for-16 (.438) with the homer and six RBIs to win Canadian Baseball Network Player of the Week honors for Week IV as the best of the 50 Canucks in the minors.

How the week that was for Deglan as he

_ Had two singles in a 6-2 loss to the Lake Elsinore Storm before 3,746 fans at The Diamond in Lake Elsinore.

_ Hit a three-run homer for a 3-0 lead and singled in a 7-5 win Lake Elsinore before 4,514 fans.

_ Singled in a 7-4 win over the Inland Empire 66ers before 1,117 at Heritage Field.

_ Doubled and singled to drive in three runs in a 9-5 win over Inland Empire in front of 1,037 fans.

Deglan beat out the likes of Jared Mortensen (Abbotsford, BC) six scoreless, double-A Montgomery, where he earned Southern League pitcher of the week;Jasvir Rakkar (Brampton, Ont.) three scoreless, two saves, class-A Myrtle Beach, Justin Atkinson (North Surrey, BC) .333, one RBI class-A Lansing and Marcus Knecht (North York, Ont.) class-A Fort Myers .300 two RBIs.

On May 3rd Mortensen started his fifth game this year for Montgomery in a 7-2 victory over the Mississippi Braves, and it turned out to be his best outing of the young season. He pitched six scoreless innings, surrendered just four base hits, while striking out three Braves hitters. The win improved his record in the Double A Southern League with the Biscuits, to 2-1 and a 1.16 ERA.

Ethan Elias continues his impressive performance this season in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. Working out of the bullpen for Kane County he had another excellent appearance this week. On May 2nd in a 9-7 victory over the Beloit Snappers, he pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings, gave up just two base hits, while striking out seven Beloit batters, to earn his third
win of the season thus far. His overall record with the Cougars in the Single A Midwest League now stands at 3-0 with a perfect 0.00 ERA.

Rakkar is a fourth year professional in the Cubs organization, currently active as the closer for Myrtle Beach, and the Brampton native seems to be thriving in that role. This week he made two fine appearances and picked up a save on both occasions. On May 2nd in a 5-4 victory over the Lynchburg Hillcats he threw a scoreless inning, gave up no hits for his second save of the year. Then on May 4th in another win over Lynchburg, he pitched two scoreless gave up just one base hit and earned his third save of the season. His overall record with the Pelicans in the Single A Carolina League, now stands at 0-0, three saves with an excellent 1.13 ERA.

Following on the heels of his two wins the previous week, Scott Diamond had another excellent start earning his third win in a row. On May 3rd in an 8-2 victory over Pawtucket Red Sox, he pitched six innings, gave up four base hits and two earned runs, while striking out five Red Sox batters, to pick up the win. His record with Durham in the Triple A International League, now stands at 3-0 with a 1.67 ERA.
