By George Farelli

Jamie Romak learned how to play the game for Mike Lumley’s London Badgers.
And badger triple-A Pacific Coast League pitching this week he did.
Playing for the Reno Aces, Romak (London, Ont.) hit .500 (15-for-30) with three homers and 11 RBIs to earn Canadian Baseball Network Player of the Week for Week VIII as the best of the 52 Canucks in the minors.
Now, that’s a good month for some hitters.
How the week went for infielder Romak, who saw big-league time with the Los Angeles Dodgers last season as he:
_ Went 3-for-4 with a pair of homers and six RBIs as Reno thumped the Iowa Cubs 13-1 at Principal Park in Des Moines, Iowa. Romak hit his first homer to left centre in the second putting the Aces up 2-1, singled to left in the third for a 4-1 lead and his slam in the sixth made it 11-1
_ Was 1-for-2, with a sixth-inning single as Reno edged Iowa 3-2 in the nitecap before 6,866 fans. He also stole a base.
_ Was 1-for-4 with a double to left field in third in a 3-2 loss to Iowa in front of 7,522 fans. After playing third in the doubleheader, he was at second base as the Cubs scored three times in the bottom of the ninth.
_ Was 3-for-4 -- a single to left in the second, a single to centre in the fifth and a single to right in the eighth -- as he was back at third base in a 4-2 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs in front of 7,072 at Aces Ballpark.
_ Was 1-for-4 with a solo homer in the seventh in a 14-3 loss to New Orleans in front of 9,451 fans.
_ Was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs in a 4-3 victory against New Orleans before 4,900. He hit a run-scoring double to centre to tie the score 2-2 and a two-run double to left in the seventh breaking the tie.
_ Was 1-for-4 with another double in a 6-3 loss to New Orleans before 3,734 fans. Romak doubled to left but was stranded.
_ Was 2-for-4 with a double -- his 13th -- and an RBI in a 7-2 win over the Round Rock Express before 3,916 fans. Romak singled to left in the first for a 2-0 lead, doubled to left in the fifth.
On the season, Romak ended our week hitting .287 in 49 games with 13 doubles, eight homers and 32 RBIs, as well as an .830 OPS. He also earned PCL POW honors.
Romak was the top Canuck selected in 2003 when Atlanta Braves scout Lonnie Goldberg, now scouting director of the Kansas City Royals, selected him in the fourth round.

In light of his history with injuries, the Los Angeles Dodgers took a bit of a risk this off season in signing Free Agent Pitcher Erik Bedard. After a stint at their extended Spring Training facility in Arizona, he was recently sent out on a re hab assignment with Single A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in the Single A California League. On May 30th in a 3-1 victory over Bakersfield Blaze he pitched six innings gave up four base hits and only one earned run, while striking out five Blaze hitters, to earn his first win of the season.
