Drake Pilat, Wesmen POW in fall ball

The Winnipeg Wesmen have their own Drake.
INF Drake Pilat (Winnipeg, Man.) a sophomore infielder earned Wesmen Garbonzo’s Player of the Week as Winnipeg opened the season with a doubleheader loss to the Dickinson State Blue Hawks in Winnipeg in NAIA fall ball play,
Pilat was 6-for-9, including two doubles, a home run and two RBIs as Dickinson State scored 8-1 and 15-9 wins in the doubleheader.
3B Pilat went 4-for-5 in the opener, with a double, a homer and two RBIs. SS Zac Comeault (Pitt Meadows, BC), LF Drew Birss (Winnipeg, Man.) and DH Riley Poole (Oak Bluff, Man) each had two hits and knocked in a run for the Wesmen. Both Comeault hits were doubles.
1B Alex Whiteside (Mount Albert, Ont.) had a pair of hits while Peter doubled and knocked in three runs as Winnipeg scored three times in the second to cut the Dickinson State lead to 6-3 and four in the eighth to cut the deficit to 13-9.
Garret Virtue (Winnipeg, Man.) took the loss allowing 10 runs -- nine earned -- on seven hits and five walks in three innings.
1B Pilat doubled and singled in the nitecap an 8-1 loss. OF Christian Peters (Winnipeg, Man.) also had a paid of hits. Austin Smith (East St. Paul, Man.) allowed three runs on five hits in six innings and was charged with the loss.
Winnipeg continues its regular season schedule on the road this weekend against Presentation College and Jamestown.
