2018 Canadians in the Minors
And in the fifth and deciding game of the triple-A Pacific Coast League ... it was decided early.
That’s because RHP Brock Dykxhoorn (Goderich, Ont.) was throwing strikes while AJ Reed and Garrett Stubbs each had two-run homers in a 10-1 win as the Fresno Gizzlies knocked off El Paso. A total of 7,588 fans were at Chukchansi Park to see the fifth and deciding game of the Pacific Coast League semi-final.
The Ontario Nationals grad allowed the first run of the game and when he left after five innings Fresno was winning 5-1. He allowed one run on three hits and two walks, while fanning five. Fresno added three in the sixth and two in the seventh.
Dykxhoorn threw 87 pitches (57 strikes) getting four ground ball outs and three fly ball outs.
It was the second time in series a Canadian started. RHP Cal Quantrill (Port Hope, Ont.) won Game 3 pitching six scoreless in a 2-0 win over Fresno before 9,902 fans at Chukchansi Park.
